Fresh Off (And On) Boat

We found ourselves in strange lands last night (Basking Ridge, NJ to be exact) at a major communications company’s retreat for employees with a common interest in Jewish cultural events. The crowd was small, no more than 30 for cocktails and kinda-kosher BBQ, but entertainment for the evening was provided by none other than the female members of Golem, a New York-based Klezmer/gypsy-folk-punk band who are no strangers to the Makor Café scene. They have a new album, Fresh Off Boat, coming out on JDub Records (the label that launched Matisyahu) so we took the opportunity to record a song and conduct an impromptu interview.

More info on their boat cruise release party this Thursday can be found here. If your sea legs aren’t sturdy, you can always set course for Makor that night to catch the Nordic/Appalachian fiddle sounds of Frigg or Avi Wisnia’s Bossa Nova Nova.
