Five Things You Might Not Have Known About Matt Groening

Matt GroeningMatt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, Futurama and other great cartoons, will be here October 10 with the “father of punk comics,” Gary Panter. But did you know:

  1. Groening named the main Simpson characters after members of his own family: his parents, Homer and Margaret (Marge or Marjorie in full), and his younger sisters, Lisa and Margaret (Maggie).
  2. In some of Groening’s original drawings of Homer Simpson, Homer’s hair is shaped like an “M” and his ear shaped like a “G,” spelling Groening’s initials.
  3. In 1989, he created a famous brochure for Apple Computer.
  4. His father, a descendant of Russian Mennonites in Canada, spoke Plautdietsch.
  5. There’s never been an official animated version of Groening’s early comic strip, Life in Hell, but that hasn’t stopped fans from creating one.

Hello Matt,
I am a HUGE fan of the Simpsons and think I have seen all of the episodes. Except this one. I have been writing an episode of the Simpsons and would like you to read it once I am done. I have been writing it for a couple of months now I started it just before my 10th birthday on the 10th of December last year. My mum and dad think it’s really funny and have said that it would be really good but extremely difficult if I could get you to read it as you probably get loads of people doing this sort of thing all the time. Please will you read my episode. I would be very grateful.

Dear Matt. I am a big fan of South Park & Family Guy. But The Simpsons is tottaly in the bomb. My favorite episode is when Homer starts seeing illusions of coyotes and stuff from his hot hot chilli and his hot hot peppers. Can you proapbly make an episode where you make fun of Family Guy so bad. I loved it when you made fun of south park with cartman’s head on O.J’s Knife.

Sincerely

a fan, Dylan

Hi my name is Grace do you know how you made that halloween simpsons episode where Mr Burns’s head was stitched up with Homer’s body and someone said next week on The Simpsons where Mr Burns’s head was still stitched on with Homer’s body could you please make an episode of that sometime in the future not meaning to be rude thankyou for reading your’s sincerely Grace Rachael Slade

By Grace at June 26, 2008, 7:05pm

Dear Matt,

I enjoy watching The Simpsons (latin version), but we have been a little bit upset because the tipical latin voices of homer, mr. burns, krusty and other important characters have been replaced by other and the difference in quality is notorious...a lot of people is dissapointed, and i would like to know if you can “bring the original voices back”...we were used to see the chapters with the original voices, and i have to say that is was a lot better than now…
Best regards,

Nicolas

Hi Matt,
I am your biggest fan in the world. I have a million Simpson episodes on tape. The Simpsons would have to be by far the best T.V. Show in the history of the world. The old episodes are the funniest! Please screen season three episodes in Australia! Please!!!!!!!!
