Five Things You Might Not Have Known About Matt Groening

Matt GroeningMatt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, Futurama and other great cartoons, will be here October 10 with the “father of punk comics,” Gary Panter. But did you know:

  1. Groening named the main Simpson characters after members of his own family: his parents, Homer and Margaret (Marge or Marjorie in full), and his younger sisters, Lisa and Margaret (Maggie).
  2. In some of Groening’s original drawings of Homer Simpson, Homer’s hair is shaped like an “M” and his ear shaped like a “G,” spelling Groening’s initials.
  3. In 1989, he created a famous brochure for Apple Computer.
  4. His father, a descendant of Russian Mennonites in Canada, spoke Plautdietsch.
  5. There’s never been an official animated version of Groening’s early comic strip, Life in Hell, but that hasn’t stopped fans from creating one.

Matt,
I really loved the Simpsons game and thats why I think you should make the Simpsons game 2. ME and friend think we could help as we have been thinking of new levels.  The Land of meat when Homer and Grandpa have to sto the vegetables and their leader The Salad bowl from taking over the land of meat or oob when Bart becomes James Bond and Apu trys to take over the world with the Kwiky Laser. Also comic book madness when Bart and Milhouse have to stop the bad guys that escaped from Barts comic books. There is pleanty more where these came from. Please answer back.

hi matt,

i dont know if youll be able to get back to me, but i have a couple questions. i read a cnn interview that you said futuramas future may depend on the dvd sales. so how’d it go? i personally own all the seasons and the movies and would love to know what might happen next.

my other question is, might you have some advice for an aspiring artist with big ideas and talent that just cant seem to gather the money for college?
im aware that you didnt go to college and there are other successful artists that didnt either and was just hoping you might have some suggestions as to how i could get my foot in the door of the art world without college (as it seems mandatory to have a chance at all).

it sounds lame and cliche but you can check my myspace to see my art, id love to know your opinion on it if thats possible.

sincerely curious,
francisco
