23-year-old Nigerian-American author Uzodinma Iweala made serious waves with his raw and unrelenting novel Beasts of No Nation last fall. The New Yorker called it a “startling debut” and Salman Rushdie was prompted to say, “This is one of those rare occasions when you see a first novel and you think, this guy is going to be very, very good.” We’ll be posting more about Iweala’s book when we’re finished reading it, but in the meantime you can watch this interview with him on Google Video from WGBH in Boston. The Morning News has a very good interview with him up as well.
Iweala will be headlining the first event of the 2006-2007 Unterberg Poetry Center season, which is only available online right now. He’ll be joined by Zadie Smith. And if you happen to be 35 years of age or younger, you can get nearly 45% off on tickets to all the new Reading Series events. If you hurry up.
