The New York Times app from my iphone; followed by a multitude of texts and emails from some very well read friends.

Obviously NYTimes.com and JWTintelligence.com for news and trends; ssense.com and ok-ni.com to shop; vmagazine.com and visionaireworld.com
How much do you use Twitter and Facebook (or other social networking services)?
I’m not one to “ tweet .” I’m not the best facebooker either. I prefer my privacy, but when I took first place in a skating championship it felt good to post and hear congrats from my friends around the globe.

Where do you go for news when you start your day?
Slashfilm.com, Gawker.com, Jezebel.com and Dlisted.com. I only read gossip and entertainment news. The rest of the world’s happenings usually show up clogging my Twitter and Facebook pages. There’s no real source I trust for any of that beyond the simple facts of who is dead, pregnant, or at war.
What are your favorite websites?
Vimeo, Twin Peaks Archive and Soundcloud. And I visit the University of California’s Wax Cylinder Archive a lot. I go there and type in random words and just see what comes up. It’s a massive archive and all the music on there is interesting for one reason or another. Mostly I love how excited everyone sounds to be hearing themselves at all.
How much do you use Twitter and Facebook (or other social networking services)?
More than I’d care to. Facebook is like a miserable human experiment that’s mostly made me feel worse about who my friends are. When you give people the chance to say shit to everyone they know at the same time you just get a lot of people posing and and acting like the person they want you to think they are.
As a performer it’s essential and really helpful because people always know what I’m up to, and it’s a good way to sort of test people’s interest in things and see how word spreads. But it’s also an easy way to find yourself giving a shit about things that aren’t important. Twitter is much more interesting because it’s instant and public and you aren’t given the space to ramble on. But I’m sure they’ll find a way to change that.

Michael Kupperman is a cartoonist and Mark Twain autobiographer. He’s also the special guest at tomorrow’s installment of the Closely Watched Films series hosted by Elliott Kalan, on December 7. Elliott and Michael also worked together on the new Marvel comic book Shame Itself. The newest installment of Michael’s Tales Designed to Thrizzle comes out December 9.

I have no time anymore, but an amazing one to look at is English Russia. Apparently Russia is a cross between The Road Warrior and Brazil. Endlessly fascinating.
How much do you use Twitter and Facebook (or other social networking services)?
A lot. I genuinely enjoy Twitter and the interactions I find there; with Facebook I enjoy the interactions but detest the site itself. Someone on my Twitter feed recently compared it to East German in the 1970s, which I thought was very apt; the spying, the control, the fact that you can never do what you want/need to. It’s maddening!

I start with the news, then find out what the world is thinking, then get to work. I generally start with MSNBC and the BBC.

Definitely The Huffington Post and The Daily Beast. After that its Rolling Stone, Newser, and Twitter.

I tweet therefore I am. Facebook is a dying star in the universe of human connection. I read an amazing tweet the other day that said, “Twitter makes me fall in love with strangers that I may never meet. Facebook makes me hate the “friends” I already know.” That pretty much sums it up.

Where do you go for news when you start your day?
I run out to Gimme Coffee and listen to neighborhood gossip. Then I go home where I have NPR and The New York Times on my email home page.
What are your favorite websites?
I don’t really look at websites very frequently unless its for work or other pragmatic purposes so my list is quite boring: Facebook, Ebay, Weather.com, Priceline, Google, Wikipedia, etc…
How much do you use Twitter and Facebook (or other social networking services)?
I try and make sure to tweet for every gig I have and make a Facebook page for each of my events so people know what’s happening. I also try and check my Facebook every day to respond to comments people make, detag pictures, accept friends, and generally participate. After doing what I need to do, I’m not on Facebook and Twitter very frequently except at airports – where it makes me feel close to people far away…
