Dick & Derek’s Piano Party

Dick Hyman's 1971 album, FantomfingersNew Year? Then it must be time for jazz.

On Saturday, January 7, stop by for Dick & Derek’s Piano Party. Dick = Dick Hyman, former Jazz in July director and composer of music for many a Woody Allen film. Derek = British-born jazz veteran Derek Smith.

Accompanying them are Bill Charlap, Carol Woods and more. Also, it turns out Hyman was a pioneer when it came to using Moog synthesizers—check out this article.

Susie Essman Podcast

Susie EssmanOn HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, Susie Essman plays the role of the amazingly caustic, foul-mouthed Susie Greene. She’ll be stopping by the Y on Sunday, January 8 to discuss her career with Joy Behar (The View) in a meeting of two of New York’s most loudmouthed comedians.

But a regular magazine or web interview wouldn’t do justice to Susie’s way with words. That was why we were so happy to come across an interview with the podcast CultureCatch where she reprises her infamous Friars Club Roast of Donald Trump and the real-life Larry David’s many neuroses.
