Radio Free Samuel Beckett

Samuel BeckettIrish playwright Samuel Beckett was one of the defining cultural figures of the 20th century. Between Waiting for Godot, Endgame and his other plays and fictional works, let’s face it: The guy is influential.

On Monday, April 3, we’ll be presenting three of Beckett’s playsCascando, Words and Music and But the Clouds—set to original music by Martin Pearlman and performed in conjunction with Nine Circles Chamber Theatre.

Beckett had a long and storied career setting up original radio plays for the BBC. The amazing avant-garde resource UbuWeb has an archive of Beckett’s BBC Radio Plays—all of which can be downloaded as free MP3s. For a sneak peak of Monday night’s event, the archive includes the originals of Cascando and Words and Music.
