Louis Rosen and Capathia Jenkins: Brilliant and Highbrow

imageAward-winning songwriter Louis Rosen, a faculty member at 92Y teaching Music Theory Classes, has made it into this week’s New York Magazine’s Approval Matrix along with actress and Broadway vocalist Capathia Jenkins, under the Highbrow/Brilliant category.

What if the both of them performed together for free? That would really be brilliant and highbrow. Well, on May 11 of next year, they will be giving a free performance at 92Y. Space is limited for this event, so please call 212.415.5580 to RSVP. As well, Capathia will be be joining a cast of legendary musicians and vocalists the following month, on June 5, for Lyrics & Lyricists™—In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening: The Stardust of Hoagy Carmichael. Single tickets and subscriptions for all Lyrics & Lyricists™ are available now.

92Y Tribeca: New Favorite Place to See Movies

Who went shopping this Friday, and more importantly, what did you buy?! Or are you waiting for Cyber Monday sales today? We passed on the shopping, and held a double feature at 92YTribeca instead, showing Mallrats and Clueless, and fun was the order of the evening. But you don’t have to take our word for it. The blogger behind Go Do NYC attended as well, and took to her blog to tell everyone about it. She writes:

It is a really great space. They have a little cafe with big windows, comfy chairs and a few televisions with sports on and music low enough to talk over. The cafe serves interesting snacks and beer and wine. At the intermission we ordered the hummus and the chocolate pudding and both were quite tasty.

In addition to the cafe, there is a screening room where we saw the movies, it is fairly small, seating maybe 75 people and a big screen. But the theater is new and seats were comfortable and you almost felt as if you were watching a movie in your own private screening room with a bunch of your friends. You could bring the yummy food into the theater to watch the movie.

We have to say, she is spot on! We bet Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman would agree. And the film fun continues apace at 92YTribeca. For instance, this Friday we are showing The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Uma Thurman’s breakout film. (In our minds anyways.) Then on Saturday, Dec 5, it’s the The Iron Mule Short Comedy Film Festival. You can browse all upcoming film events at 92YTribeca, here.
