Allan Kozinn, wrote in today’s New York Times: “Winning the Chopin Competition early in his career did not stop the pianist Garrick Ohlsson from insisting on musical challenges from styles and periods outside his specialty...At the moment Mr. Ohlsson has Liszt on his mind, mainly because this season includes the bicentenary of Liszt’s birth, though he has been known to mine the Liszt catalog in nonanniversary years too. In the 1998-99 season he played a three-concert series at Lincoln Center juxtaposing Liszt with Beethoven, Bach and Schubert. In one installment he undertook the draining feat of pairing Liszt’s monumental B minor Sonata with Bach’s “Goldberg” Variations. He revisits the sonata next Sunday as part of a Liszt recital at the 92nd Street Y...”

The Administrative Offices and Y-Charge are closed for the Jewish Holidays of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah on Oct 20 and 21. Y-Charge will re-open at 9am on Sun, Oct 23. The May Center for Health, Fitness and Sport is open and all May Center classes and programs are being held. The Administrative Office of the School of Arts is also open, and all classes and private lessons in the School of Arts will be held as scheduled.

About 92Y’s Steve Martin and Deborah Solomon Program
We know there have been a lot of stories in the media over the last couple of days about our evening at 92Y with Deborah Solomon and Steve Martin and our decision to offer gift certificates to our audience.
Put simply, we didn’t handle this situation as well as we could have done.
We received numerous complaints from audience members about how the interview was conducted and responded quickly by offering the gift certificates. Although our gesture was made out of respect for our patrons and with the best of intentions, we know now that it came across to many as a criticism of our guests. We deeply apologize for this.
We realize now that offering a refund, especially without consulting with our guests who graciously gave of their time, was disrespectful. We have learned our lesson, and this will not happen again.
For 136 years, 92Y has been committed to supporting the arts and providing lectures and programs that educate and entertain. We deeply value our partnerships with those who help us in our mission.
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, 92Y Sales & Customer Service Department will be closed on Thursday, November 25th and will reopen on Friday, November 26th at 9am. You can always buy tickets or register online.

92Y Video: 92Y Brings Music Back to NYC Public Schools - VOTE TODAY!
Did you know that 92Y brings music to over 3,200 public school students every year? During October, 92Y is competing in the PepsiRefresh Project to win $50,000. This money will help us bring professional artists into over 25 public schools and then over 3,200 students back to 92Y for concerts by world-class musicians. Without 92Y, most of our partner schools would not be able to teach music and most of our students would not discover the joy of music.
Our annual Street Festival is this Sunday, 11am to 5:30pm, and if you’ve been before, you know it’s not a typical New York street festival. Spanning 79th to 94th Street on Lexington Avenue, it’s one of the largest of its kind. Here are some of the highlights:

The 92nd Street Y web site will be undergoing maintenance this weekend. The site will be available for browsing and planning but sales of tickets and classes will be interrupted during this period. Maintenance will start at 4am, Saturday July 3 and is scheduled to be complete at 5pm, Sunday July 4.
