On April 30, 2001, comedian Judy Gold interviewed Grammy Award-winning comic legend George Carlin, who passed away yesterday, at Congregation Rodeph Sholom as part of the 92nd Street Y's Funny People Series. 92Y Podcast: Tim Russert

We share in the outpouring of grief and respect for Tim Russert, one of the great voices in journalism who died today. Russert joined NBC News in 1984 and in April 1985, he supervised the live broadcasts of the Today program from Rome, negotiating and arranging an appearance by Pope John Paul II, a first for American television. In the audio clip above, recorded January 15, 1995—one of three appearances for Russert at the 92nd Street Y—he shares the story of this career highlight that took him from Philadelphia to the Vatican.

With the presidential primary season coming to a close, it's appropriate that this week's 92Y Podcast features Geraldine Ferraro, former member of the United States House of Representatives and Vice Presidential candidate. As the first, and so far only, female to be on a Presidential ticket representing a major American political party, she brought a unique perspective to her talk "The Future of Women in Politics" recorded at the 92nd Street Y on February 20, 1991. 92Y Podcast: Sydney Pollack, 1934-2008

Memories of beloved filmmaker Sydney Pollack, who passed away yesterday, can be found in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Variety, Deadline Hollywood Daily and anywhere that covers entertainment news.

On September 26, 2006, Sydney Pollack appeared at Makor, the 92nd Street Y program formerly located on Manhattan's Upper West Side and soon to be relaunched downtown as 92YTribeca, to discuss his first documentary, Sketches of Frank Gehry, about the famed architect. The audio clip above is a 17-minute excerpt from the evening. Before the talk, he answered questions about living in Los Angeles for the 92Y Blog.

92Y Podcast: Nadine Gordimer

Nadine Gordimer, South African novelist and short story writer, began writing at an early age. The daughter of Jewish immigrants, she published her first short story, "Come Again Tomorrow," when she was 15. At 21, Gordimer briefly attended Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg where she was exposed to the social and political atmosphere of South Africa, which would become the focus of her works. Gordimer's short stories have been published in various magazines such as the The New Yorker, Harper's, and The Yale Review. She received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1991 and continues to live in and write about South Africa.

Nadine Gordimer appeared at the 92nd Street Y early in her career on April 24, 1961 to read selected short stories. In the audio clip above, listen to "A Style of Her Own."
