If blogging seems like a burden to you, perhaps you should try Twitter, the popular micro-blogging platform. Scratching your head? Wikipedia describes Twitter as “a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.” Some have called it an online megaphone; basically, it’s attention deficit personal publishing. Everyone from your neighbor, probably someone in your family, co-worker to the New York Times is using it as a communications tool. The Y embraces all technology and conversation so naturally we have Twitter accounts for both 92Y and 92YTribeca which you can follow.
In exciting news among the “Twitterati,” Mashable.com, the world’s largest blog for “Web 2.0” and social networking news, recently named us one of the “40 Best Twitter Brands” along with TV Guide, The Travel Channel, Comcast, Marvel Entertainment, DirecTV and PopCap (a major online gaming site). Here’s a quick profile they did of us: Twitter Name: 92Y and 92YTribeca
92Y Official Tweeter: Meet Amanda ReCupido, associate publicist, and twitterer behind the 92YTribeca account. Her cohort Andrew Krucoff, director of web content, tweets uptown for the 92Y version. They’re both using Twitter on behalf of the arts, educational, and entertainment venues because they “wanted to be where the conversation was happening, and tap into the immediacy of Twitter.”
Why you should follow them: “Follow for breaking 92Y and 92YTribeca news: updated event info, added guests, live-Tweets of events, trivia, behind the scenes & more!”
On Twitter giveaways: “Yes, we have and plan to offer special promotions and ticket giveaways to events via Twitter.”
A great Twitter reply: “A fan from WV asked us to say hi to Janeane Garofalo for them; someone else admitted to listening to the Labyrinth soundtrack on the subway.”
