We recently took a flying elephant ride over to the home of “multi-award winning” Daily Show writer Elliott Kalan for the second installment of 92Y Show & Tell. (The premiere episode featured writer Marisa Meltzer).
In this episode, Elliott graciously showed us some of his prized tschotskes as we followed him about his Brooklyn abode, camera in hand. Hear him discuss his beloved notes from the 1939 World’s Fair, valiantly attempt to explain the copy on his framed movie poster for Walt Disney’s Dumbo, and watch ‘till the end to see one item that “no one else in the world has.”
When not collecting awesome things to house in his burgeoning Brooklyn museum/home, Elliott hosts the Closely Watched Films series at 92YTribeca.
Up next in the series on April 7th is Kill! by Japanese director Kihachi Okamoto. The film is, among other things, a sharp satirical comedy, a top-notch samurai adventure, and a disillusioned take on the masculine myths of Japanese history and a reappropriation of the spaghetti westerns that had already appropriated earlier samurai films. Joining Elliott for the screening will be special guest comic book artist Evan Dorkin.
