92YQ: Dawn Eden, Writer

Dawn EdenDawn Eden writes for the New York Daily News by day but blogs at the Dawn Patrol about her religious views during the night-owlish hours, sometimes until the crack of...dawn. (Sorry, too easy.) Her first book, The Thrill of the Chaste: Finding Fulfillment While Keeping Your Clothes On will be in bookstores come December but we caught up with her before tonight’s Wednesday’s Makor talk Cutting to the Chaste: Celibacy and the New Sexuality where she will appear with a host of other sexperts. Here’s a peek into her abstinent New York world.

How many years, apartments and what neighborhoods have you lived in NYC?
Five years (1985-1990), five dorm rooms, one apartment, two neighborhoods.

What era, day or event in New York’s history would you like to re-live?
I’d like to ride the ultramodern moving sidewalk past the bulletproof-glass-enclosed Pieta at the Vatican Pavilion during the 1964-65 World’s Fair.

What’s your New York motto?
UM-brellas! UM-brellas!

Describe that low, low moment when you thought you just might have to leave NYC for good.
I discovered that wasps had made their nest in my skylight, which was the only window in my illegally divided Upper West Side brownstone.

Who do you consider to be the greatest New Yorker of all-time?
My dad. He was born in Bayonne, but grew up on Staten Island.

What was your best dining experience in NYC?
Eel-and-avocado hand rolls with Vince Miller at Japonica.

Of all the movies made about or highly associated with New York, what role would you have liked to be cast in?
I’d like to be Carole Lombard in “My Man Godfrey,” with William Powell turning on the shower faucet.

What happened the last time you went to L.A.?
I posed in Griffith Park at the sundial where the back-cover photo for the Millennium’s 1968 album Begin was taken.

If you could change one thing about New York, what would it be?
The weather. Too much snow and ice.

The End of The World is finally happening. What are you going to do with your last 24 hours in NYC?
Go to Our Saviour on 38th St. at Park Ave. and pray.
