92YQ: Francesca Harper of Modo Fusion Lounge

Video: Francesca Harper - “Glamour Trip”

Celebrated Broadway performer Francesca Harper is throwing her official Modo Fusion CD release party at Makor on Monday with a special installment of Modo Fusion Lounge. Conceived by Harper and written with New York Times critic-at-large and Pulitzer-Prize winning author Margo Jefferson, it’s a multimedia cabaret that “explores her experiences as a dancer, a singer and an African-American woman through an accessible, hybrid stage work.” Many of her Broadway friends and guest collaborators will be on hand for this lively, light-hearted show. For a deeper look into her relationship with New York, here are her answers to the 92YQ.

How many years, apartments and what neighborhoods have you lived in NYC?
I have lived in New York for approximately two decades on and off. I grew up in Chelsea, lived in the West Village, East Village, and now I live on the Upper West Side.

What’s your best (or worst) NYC taxi story?
I was in a taxi accident once when I had a stress fracture in my back. I sued the taxi company and won some money.

What era, day or event in New York’s history would you like to re-live?
The 1920s.

What’s your New York motto?
Go with the flow.

Describe that low, low moment when you thought you just might have to leave NYC for good.
During 9/11 I thought if things got worse I would have to move. But most New Yorkers decided to stay and I’m glad I did too.

Who do you consider to be the greatest New Yorker of all-time?
My mother.

What was your best dining experience in NYC?
I love the Royalton Hotel for drinks, decor, and dinner.

With a nod to Milton Glaser, how much do you really love New York?
It’s the diversity.

Of all the movies made about or highly associated with New York, what role would you have liked to be cast in?
Annie Hall

What happened the last time you went to L.A.?
I drove a lot, and enjoyed it.

If you could change one thing about New York, what would it be?
More green.

The End of The World is finally happening. What are you going to do with your last 24 hours in NYC?
Go out drinking and dining with friends, family, and then go home to be with my fiancee.
