Alex Ross iPod Playlist

We recently held a contest to promote our 2007-08 Concert Season, which is now available for purchase through series subscriptions. Three lucky winners received an 8GB iPod nano pre-loaded with music picked by Hanna Arie-Gaifman, Director of the 92nd Street Y Tisch Center for the Arts, and The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross, who led a brunch talk on 20th century music this past spring at the Y. Alex submitted three themed playlists which we provide for your perusal below. Many of Hanna's selections were live recordings from the 92nd Street Y's Kaufmann Concert Hall. Here's one of the audio clips, Mozart Oboe Quartet (Part 1), performed by Jaime Laredo - violin, Maurice Bourgue - oboe, Kim Kashkashian - viola and Sharon Robinson - cello, from a Chamber Music at the Y concert on February 21, 2006. You can download it or play here.
