Culture Klatsch: 92Y Q&A With Valerie Smaldone

imageOn June 28, Tommy James will sit down with 5-time Billboard Magazine Award winner Valerie Smaldone at 92nd Street Y for discussion about his life and career as documented in his autobiography, Me, the Mob, and the Music. Tommy James was a previous subject of the 92Y Culture Klatsch. Today, we have Valerie Smaldone’s answers. Without further adieu:

Where do you go for news when you start your day?

Get the top news headlines on Aol.com when I sign on to my email.

What are your favorite websites?

For subway information in NYC, hopstop.com, for food information, Zagat.com, for theater information: Theatermania.com, for shopping: Smartbargains.com.

How much do you use Twitter and Facebook (or other social networking services)?

I use Facebook and Linked In mainly for marketing and networking. Twitter, just to post links to articles I have written or to post information about classes I am teaching.

What book are you currently reading (or the last one you read)? Print or digital?

Curation Nation (print)

What magazines do you subscribe to?

Crains, Fast Company, NY Business Report, Hollywood Reporter

What are your current (or all time) favorite television shows?

“CBS Sunday Morning,” “60 Minutes,” “Dateline,” “48 Hours,” “The Good Wife,” “Glee.”

What’s the last movie you saw?

“The King’s Speech”

What’s the last performance (dance/opera/theater) you attended?

“Catch Me If You Can”

What’s the last music purchase you made?

No doubt something eclectic and world music-y

What radio shows or podcasts do you listen to?

Valerie’s New York, of course!

What’s your favorite piece of art on display in your home?

A painting that Tony winner Alice Ripley gave me, a Peter Max print signed by Peter Max and addressed to me, and paintings of Alan Cumming and Cyndi Lauper (both addressed to me and autographed by the stars) by Dan May.

Where do you go / what do you do to “disconnect”?

Someplace by the water, a rooftop bar, or an animal shelter. My additional way to disconnect and unwind, is to go shoe shopping and gaze at rows and rows of fabulous shoes.
