Falling Down for Labyrinth Sing-Along

David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly in Labyrinth

Jennifer Connelly’s greatest cinematic achievement came in Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. As 15-year-old Sarah she accidentally wishes her baby half-brother, Toby, away to the Goblin King Jareth (played by David Bowie) who will keep Toby if Sarah does not complete his Labyrinth in 13 hours. If she reminds you of another movie character, that might not be an accident; George Lucas was producer of Labyrinth.

The Denver Post wrote of the film:

“Cult favorite,” when it comes to movie descriptions, is often a polite or revisionist substitution for “just plain weird...”

In the case of “Labyrinth,” however, “cult favorite” serves the intended purpose of the phrase by encouraging people to give this overlooked family movie a try.

On Sep 25th, 92YTribeca is excited to present Labyrinth Sing-Along for rabid fans and first timers alike. And to help you get started, we have an mp3 of As The World Falls Down by David Bowie, featured in the above video, and the complete lyrics are after the jump. So now you can practice to your hearts content, and we know you are, hoping to belt out that perfect performance for all your peers. Or are we projecting?

There’s such a sad love
Deep in your eyes, a kind of pale jewel
Opened and closed within your eyes
I’ll place the sky within your eyes

There’s such a fooled heart
Beating so fast in search of new dreams
A love that will last within your heart
I’ll place the moon within your heart

As the pain sweeps through
Makes no sense for you
Every thrill he’s caused
Wasn’t too much fun at all
But I’ll be there for you
As the world falls down

Falling
(As the world) Falling down
Falling in love

I’ll paint you mornings of gold
I’ll spin you Valentine evenings
Though we’re strangers till now
We’re choosing the path between the stars
I’ll leave my love between the stars

As the pain sweeps through
Makes no sense for you
Every thrill he’s caused
Wasn’t too much fun at all
But I’ll be there for you
As the world falls down

As the world falls down
