We dug into the Times archives to find the wedding announcement of Francine du Plessix Gray—before her days as a novelist, beauty icon and more recently the author of Them: A Memoir of Parents which chronicles the social climbing of her Russian-born mother and stepfather, publisher/artist Alexander Liberman, who would become second in command at Condé Nast—to painter Cleve Gray. She appears at the Y in our “Russian Sundays” series on April 1 to discuss her parents, two extravagantly talented Russian émigrés who fled wartime Paris to come to New York. Vasily Yankovich, a classical Gypsy singer named the best Roma singer in the United States, will perform on Sunday as well.
