We’re on a history kick today, in honor of our 133rd anniversary and inspired by blogs like Shorpy, the 100-Year-Old Photo Blog. Consider this the first installment of a recurring feature highlighting artifacts from the 92nd Street Y Archives. We’ve got some interesting items lined up.

Above, the 92nd Street Y in February 1900, when our first building on the corner of 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue was being constructed. Our present building was completed in 1930, and we now take up much more of this corner. In fact, most of the buildings visible in this photograph no longer exist, but that little one on 92nd Street to the left—three buildings down from the old Y—still stands.
