The 92nd Street Y Community Orchestra welcomes its new conductor, Sean Kubota, pictured above. The orchestra has a 93-year history and is New York City’s longest-standing community based orchestra!
Mr, Kubota received a Masters of Music in orchestral conducting from The Juilliard School in New York, where he studied with James DePreist and Otto-Werner Mueller. He later continued his studies with David Hayes. Mr. Kubota was a 2008-2009 season recipient of the Japanese Government Overseas Artist Fund and pursued further studies of orchestral repertory at the New York Philharmonic. He has appeared as a conductor with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Civic Symphony, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, the Orchestra of Sofia, the Manhattan Symphony, the Mannes Orchestra, the New Juilliard Ensemble, the New Tokyo Chamber Philharmonic and the Orchestra della Toscana.
Auditions take place this Sunday, October 17 from 10:30am to 1pm. Interested musicians should call the School of Music at 212-415-5580 to schedule an appointment.
The semester ends with a free concert on February 13, 2011.
