Jazz in July: Wess Anderson

Video: Wess “Warm Daddy” Anderson on Saxophone

That’s “Warm Daddy” himself at right in the video above. If you’re curious where he got the nickname Warm Daddy, it ”was bestowed after a drummer in the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra commented on Wess’s willingness to extend his hand to give autographs, especially to young people.”

As part of our Jazz in July Summer Festival, Wess Anderson will be here on Jul 22 for A Helluva Town: New York Jazz.

Joining him will be Bill Charlap, Barbara Carroll, Sandy Stewart, Ken Peplowski, Byron Stripling, Wess Anderson, Bucky Pizzarelli, Jay Leonhart, and Eddie Locke. They will give you a musical tour of the city where jazz history was made, going from Joplin’s Wall Street Rag all the way up to Ellington’s Drop Me Off in Harlem, with stops along the way for other classics.
