The Wall Street Journalpenned a piece today about the music of Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975), specifically his 24 Preludes and Fugues. With regard to interpretations of the piece by Western pianists, the Wall Street Journal writes:
...we have had to wait until today for a wholly exuberant, indisputably triumphant interpretation that fully realizes Shostakovich’s intentions.
...none captures the dizzying diversity, the range of experience from the moribund to the ecstatic, as does the remarkably fluid and theatrically imaginative Ms. Lin. Even though Shostakovich did not intend his 24 Preludes and Fugues to be heard complete, they are such a delight as presented by Ms. Lin that the listener would be at a loss to do without any one of these miniature masterpieces.
