Newark, New Jersey Mayor Cory Booker to Appear at 92Y

Sundance Channel’s Brick City is “engrossing,” a “rich, remarkably entertaining series,” writes the Boston Globe. Filmed mostly during the summer and fall of 2008, the five part mini-series tells the story of Newark, NJ through real life characters such as Mayor Cory Booker and his police director, Garry McCarthy, a former employee of the NYPD and resident of the Bronx, as they work to reduce the homicide rate and build community in Newark:
“But it’s not easy work,” said Booker in a recent phone interview. “It’s pushing a boulder up a hill. If anything, I hope the documentary shows how fortunate I am as a mayor that I’m not the only person with my hands on that stone. There are a lot of good people here who are working with me.”
For more context up close and personal, join Mayor Cory Booker at 92Y on Dec 3, in a talk moderated by Budd Mishkin to discuss his first term in office and the journey he has traveled thus far as Mayor of Newark, New Jersey’s largest city.
