Q-Tip and Questlove Making New Music

Q-Tip was at 92YTribeca last week as part of the Noise Makers series with Peter Rosenberg. Time Out New York‘s The Volume blog was there, and reports:

After triumphantly taking the stage last night, Q-Tip hoisted his shoulders back like Superman, grabbed the mike, pointed at his magnificent black shades and muttered, “I swear I’m not a douche bag. My eyes—I’ve been rubbin’ those sh*ts out. I got allergies!”

...Rosenberg went back in the day, asking about Q-Tip’s youth (he went to church with Phife Dawg!) and his initial immersion into the world of beats (he made “Bonita Applebum” when he was 15!). Other “oh sh*t”–level gems: Tip battled Ol’ Dirty Bastard; Busta Rhymes was almost a fifth member of Tribe. The night culminated with ?uestlove joining Tip on stage for an impromptu J Dilla tribute that eventually found both icons on the same drum set.

If you regrettably missed this, you can relive some of it in the video above, or in this beautifully shot photo set on Flickr, courtesy of The Stewart of NY. Interestingly, there’s another video of the performance where you can see ?usetlove on stage using his Blackberry in his left hand, while playing drums with his right. Known as an avid Twitter user, our first thought was, is he twittering? We’re on the case, and found this tweet from his account logged in at 9:40 pm (EST) on the night of the show:

for the record. The Cypher (house band for Pete Rosenberg’s Noisemaker) might be the ILLEST hip hop band.

We couldn’t be positive, but it looks like that was the tweet he is seen sending from the stage. 2009 is so future.

For those that missed all the fun, take solace in the knowledge that on April 25, 92YTribeca is hosting Lyricist Lounge Presents...The Foundation Album Release Showcase. It will be hosted by Heltah Skeltah, with performances by R.A. The Rugged Man, Craig G, Mr. Metaphor, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Torae and BeKay. See you then.
