NYC resident Samantha Appleton has been selected by the White House to join the White House Photography Staff. Samantha is currently having a showing of photographs at the 92nd Street Y’s Weill Art Gallery at 1395 Lexington Ave. The show, (S)ELECTION ‘08, Images from the 2008 Presidential Campaign, is her first show in NYC and runs until March 10th. Be sure to stop by the gallery before it closes.
Reached at home by the media, Samantha’s mother Annie Appleton spoke about her daughters new job, saying, “She has been living and working hand to mouth for so many years and suddenly she has a salary, insurance and she’ll be traveling on Air Force One,” said Annie. “It’s mind blowing.”
Samantha for her part called her mom on the phone and nonchalantly mentioned, “Mom, I’m going to have to get some new clothes.”
This exhibition at the Weill Art Gallery is curated by Natasha Lunn, a contributing editor to the New York Times Style magazine and formerly an associate photography editor at The New Yorker magazine. The Milton J. Weill Art Gallery is open to patrons of Kaufmann Concert Hall during regularly scheduled events. For viewing at other times please call 212.415.5563 to schedule an appointment. You can view a slideshow of the powerful images Samantha took while on the campaign trail, here.
