Scrabble Pro Joe Edley Faces Off Against Jeopardy! Champion Jonathan Corbblah

L-R: Joe Edley and Jonathan Corbblah

Scrabble pro Joe Edley was here over the weekend for his popular Scrabble Master Class. In attendance at the class was Harlem resident and recent Jeopardy! champion Jonathan ”Game Show Guy” Corbblah. We guess Corbblah figured if Jeopardy! contestants can play against a computer, then he can challenge Joe to a scrabble match. So he did, and they had a 92Y version of Word Wars! Here’s a quick recap: After the two plus hour workshop, Jonathan asked Joe if he would care to sit for a friendly match. Joe, of course, was more than happy too. They are just getting started in the photo at top.

Seven moves in, Joe was ahead by more than 200 points. Jonathan looked half parts amazed and distraught…

After seven more moves, Jonathan tapped out, begging Joe to “stop the bleeding.”

By the way, the last word Joe played before accepting Jonathan’s resignation was “AGONIES.”

Joe Edley’s next scrabble workshop, Scrabble Play-by-Play, is takes place on April 17.
