New York City in the Summer is chock full of film showings, indoors and out. Just look at this partial list of outdoor showings from the Gridskipper blog. We try to make it to a few of them, but sometimes we’re just not interested in seeing E.T. again, even if they are showing it under the Brooklyn Bridge. Sometimes, we want to see an engaging, smart film that we haven’t seen before.
Thankfully, not only are their multiple outdoor screenings of films, there are also multiple film festivals, and 92YTribeca is hosting a number of them. Such as what you ask? Well, how about these:
This weekend there is the NY Eye & Ear: Bi-Annual Record Fair and All-Ages Music Fest, featuring the Women on NY Cinema series. Also this weekend, and in the beginning of August, is the The Iron Mule Short Comedy Film Festival (formerly known as First Sundays). July 24 has Cartoons from Hell on deck, Swayze Days of Summer runs until Jul 31, the G.I. Joe Stop Motion Film Festival on Jul 25, Queer/Art/Film runs till the end of July, and Closely Watched Films last showing is Sep 9.
So now you know. There are more films to see this summer than you might have time for. Choose wisely.
You can keep up with all of this via 92YTribeca’s Film Facebook page, their Twitter, or via the eNews list.
