Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, “the happiest man on earth” is currently on a North American Tour. In his latest book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, he explains the message as learning how to master your “monkey mind.”
”That crazy monkey mind” is the voice in your head connected with destructive emotions and thoughts. Those thoughts when we are scared, angry or hurt can lead to “crazy monkey action” that in turn leads to problems in your life, with others, and with your body. Rinpoche teaches that only through meditation will we find true happiness, by removing the thoughts of “desire, aggression, ignorance, jealousy and so on. There are all kinds of movement in our minds - we usually think of these thoughts as getting in the way of our meditation and harming or destroying our meditation.” It’s something President Obama seems to understand.
Rinpoche will be at 92Y on Jun 22 for a conversation with Daniel Goleman, explaining meditation as a physical as well as spiritual process.
After learning the key to meditation, stop by our state of the art exercise facility, and you’ll be skipping all the way home.
