We dived into the list and a few names and performances stood out. David Yazbek (Best Original Score [Music and/or Lyrics] Written for the Theatre) and Laura Benati (Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical) were nominated for Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Both were at 92YTribeca on April 11 for Lyrics & Lyricists Downtown. Patti LuPone (Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical) also received a nomination for Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown; she was here most recently with Jordan Roth for the Broadway Talks series.
Up next in Broadway Talks is Daniel Radcliffe, who will be here on May 9. Radcliffe stars in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, nominated for 8 awards!
Catch Me If You Can was nominated for four awards and is the subject of an upcoming event at 92YTribeca on June 9, when the show’s creative team will talk about their new production and cast members will perform a couple of favorite songs!
And Eve Ensler will be awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Award. The award recognizes “an individual from the theatre community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations, regardless of whether such organizations relate to the theatre.” Ms. Ensler has been here before, and will be here again on June 15 with Erica Jong, Molly Jong-Fast and Daphne Merkin for Real Women Talk About Real Sex.
UPDATE: A closer look at the nominees reveals nominations for David Yazbek, Joshua Henry, Laura Benanti and Victoria Clark, all whom have been here for our Lyrics & Lyricists series. Congrats to everyone nominated!
