Having traveled an as of yet unheard of distance half way across the country, from Duluth MN (”a hot bed of Hillbilly music”) to New York City, bluegrass string band Trampled by Turtles (MySpace) caused a major delay on a runway at John F. Kennedy International Airport last month as they slowly made there way across the runway, causing flight delays of an hour and a half. [Ed. Note: Oops, our mistake. Wrong turtles!]
Though Trampled for Turtles—the band, not the reptiles—are indeed traveling from their hometown of Duluth to 92YTribeca on Oct 14 for a show.
Why choose 92YTribeca as venue? A recent article on CNN.com discussing the ever increasing fees charged by companies like Ticketmaster, might inform. Trampled by Turtles was featured as a band trying to build an audience town by town, playing venues where the ticket prices remain affordable and where ticket fees are non-existent or minimal.
Ticket prices for their show at 92YTribeca are only $10. And really, it doesn’t get much cheaper than that, does it? Tiffany Winbush, a member of Community Board 1, agrees. Commenting in the Downtown Express on the new Battery Park City Community Center planned, Winbush noted: “...the center could succeed by replicating 92YTribeca’s affordable prices and laid-back atmosphere.”
