How They Lived: Photographs About Hungarian Jewish Life, 1870 – 1940, is an exhibition of over 100 fascinating and historical photographs that provides rare insight into the everyday life of Jews who lived in Hungary during the 70 years before World War II. The works on view explore the diversity of Hungarian Jewish life before the Holocaust, documenting the way Hungarian Jews dressed and the range of places that they lived and worked. Curated by András Koerner, the exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, to be published by Vince Books. The exhibit was called a “unique enterprise without any real precedents.”
We invite you to attend the Opening reception on Jun 4 at 6:30pm at the Weill art Gallery, where the exhibit will run from June 5 to July 2, 2009.
The exhibition is organized by the Hungarian Cultural Center and presented in conjunction with Extremely Hungary, a yearlong festival showcasing contemporary Hungarian visual, performing, and literary arts in New York and Washington, D.C., throughout 2009.
