What You Missed: Meet The Lady IS WATCHING YOU!

image

92YTribeca’s monthly Meet The Lady events throw film clips in among live performances and interviews, culminating in you-had-to-be-there variety show awesomeness. Last weekend host Tom Blunt celebrated National Stalking Awareness Month with a madcap tribute to stalker cinema—in particular, ladies who stalk, and the movies that celebrate them. As seen in the photo above, Jessica Harper, constant prey in movies such as Suspiria, The Phantom of the Paradise and Shock Treatment, appeared on stage via magic Skype to discuss the new bane of her existence: picky eaters. She also discussed her new cookbook, The Crabby Cook Cookbook and admitted that she does in fact still find herself singing ”Bitchen in the Kitchen” while working on particularly tough meals.

Kate Wilkinson, one of the creators/stars of the 2005 off-Broadway comedy Fatal Attraction: A Greek Tragedy (which also starred Corey Feldman!) discussed the cultural footprint of the 1987 Adrian Lyne movie that inspired her play.

Sean Donnelly, the director of the notorious I Think We’re Alone Now described the wide spectrum of reactions to his film (a documentary about two people who each stalk the ‘80s pop star Tiffany). On hand to quiz him was our favorite blogger on the world wide webs, Rich Juzwiak of fourfour fame, whose many posts about the doc have helped turn it into a cult sensation.

Peter J. Cook, field producer of the new show ”Stalked: Someone’s Watching”, shared stories from his work with real-life stalking victims and commented on the difference between fictional and non-fictional accounts of stalking.

Blogger Bonnie Downing seduced a member of the audience with tactics from Tracy Cabot’s stalkery 1984 self-help book How To Make Any Man Fall In Love With You.

Gothic perfumer Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab sent each audience member home with their own vial of “Whitechapel,” a fragrance inspired by Jack the Ripper, burlesque sensation Iris Explosion gave a demonstration about legendary huntress Ms. Pac-Man’s subversively sexy agenda, and last but not least, Tom’s dad (a gun dealer living in Arizona) called in with lurid tales about his numerous creepy exes. Yikes!

Join the MTL gang on Friday, February 18th when they roll out Meet The Lady: Frenemies and Nemesisters, in which a rainbow of special guests examine the time-honored tradition of slagging your friends and battling your siblings to the death.
