1920s “Greek” Dance from National Photo Company (via: Library of Congress)
We are enamored with the 1920’s. It was a swinging good time, or so we hear. When New York Times writer Lily Koppel spoke about the era through the voice of a young woman’s diary she found, our fondness for the decade only grew.
As part of our enjoyment of the music, dance, fashions and social activities of the Ragtime Era, the Y is presenting a Vintage Summer Ball on June 20 for an evening of waltzes, tangos, one-steps, foxtrots and, of course, the blues. Guests are encouraged to attend in period attire. There’s a good chance that you’ll hear the song featured in the title of this post, You Tell Her I Studder by Billy Jones & Ernest Hare (download MP3), about a young man who desperately wants to propose marriage, but because of his stutter, he asks his sweetheart’s brother to do the proposing for him. Awww....
For more music from the 1920’s than you can shake a stick at, visit the Internet Archive. Other social dance parties at the Y can be found here.
